More Insurance Savings for Members
Manitoba Hotel Association has partnered with HED to offer MHA members access to HED's TotalGUARD employee benefits program. In today's competitive job market, having a dependable and affordable employee benefits program is critical to attracting and retaining employees. Regardless of whether or not you currently have an employee benefits program in place, HED's TotalGUARD employee benefits program can help save you premium dollars.
Features & Enhancements
Premium Savings - members with 10+ lives to insure will receive an immediate 10% savings off existing premiums for equivalent coverage. Members with less then 10 lives insured will receive an immediate 5% savings.
Rate Stability - stability is generated by spreading claims over the entire pool.
Program Flexibility - Member properties will now have many different coverage options to choose from.
Online Direct Invoicing/Billing - Massage therapists, physiotherapists and chiropractors may invoice claim payment service provider Green Shield Canada direct, avoiding any out of pocket expenses.
Pay-Direct Drug/Dental Card - all insured persons will receive this automatic payment card, which is like a credit card that insured persons can use for their drugs and dental services, to prevent having to pay up front and then applying for reimbursement. Insureds are required merely to pay the amount of any deductible or co-insurance at the time of purchase/service.

MHA's Property Insurance Program
On March 1, 2004, Manitoba Hotel Association launched a revolutionary new property insurance program for Manitoba hotels. The program is managed by HED Insurance & Risk Services of Winnipeg. A target of 170 hotels was required; that target was surpassed with close to 200 hotels. The program includes participation from large and small properties throughout Manitoba. Immediately upon its inception, this program had the majority of Manitoba hotels, and more than 25% higher participation than the previous program.
The self-insurance model permits rebates to members after years with low claims. After Year 1 of the program, the fund retained over $1 million in surplus, that has either been paid to, or earmarked for, policyholders.
Behind the entire self-insurance structure is complete insurance protection from the largest insurer in Canada, who will pay for all claims over the annual, self-insurance fund.
For more information, or to join the insurance program, call HED Insurance & Risk Services in Winnipeg at (204) 943-0331, or call the MHA office.
Our thanks go out to Art Elias and the staff at HED Insurance & Risk Services for helping us build this program for the Manitoba hotel industry, and to all the hotels who made the decision to join the program.

Manitoba's Designated Driver Program
Email us about Manitoba's Designated Driver program.
The "Designated Driver" awareness program aims to prevent accidents by curbing impaired driving. An extension of this program is the "It's Good Business" program, a mandatory alcohol awareness and education program for owners/operators and serving staff of licensed premises in Manitoba.
Manitoba Hotel Association was one of the lead organizations in developing and initiating both programs. The "Designated Driver" and "It's Good Business" programs are a partnership between Manitoba Hotel Association, MLCC, Manitoba Public Insurance, The Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Brewers Association and the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
When successfully implemented, the "Designated Driver" program for all licensed establishments puts the onus on a group of patrons to identify a person who will not drink any alcoholic beverage prior to or during an outing. The designated driver takes responsibility for ensuring that other members of the group arrive home safely. "Think and Drink" wristbands, tokens, and server badges can be purchased for a nominal charge through the MHA office.
Promotional signage can be obtained from the MLCC for free by calling (204) 474-5608.
